The World Community of Saint Francis is the first inter-religious order of men and women dedicated to following the example of the original Troubadour of Peace -- the poor man of Assisi. We are an ecumenical order focusing on peace and justice issues, especially those relating to the world's diverse religious paths. Inspired by the World Day of Prayer that took place in Assisi, Italy in October of 1986, we commit ourselves to being living examples of the peace that surpasses understanding, demonstrating the possibility of unity and cooperation in a world desperately in need of both.

Our members come from a variety of spiritual paths and from many different countries, and yet we are bound by a single ideal -- to respond the message of Saint Francis in ways that are contemporary and realistic for the modern world we find ourselves in. Founded in 2009, the 800th anniversary of the Franciscan order, the WCSF welcomes people from any religion, following the example of Saint Francis -- the first inter-religious peace worker.

Members of the order pray the Sacred Office of Peace twice a day, consisting of the peace prayers from the twelve major religions of the world which were prayed at the 1986 World Day of Prayer. Our Mother House and community is located outside Ashland, Oregon, but most members live in the world sharing this message through their daily lives.

We would like to welcome you to explore and join our family if you feel called by Spirit. Enjoy the information on this site and contact us if you have further questions. We also welcome members of other Franciscan communities who would like to have a greater focus on inter-religious peace work.
